Our History

Stout Steel is a family-owned business with roots connected to multiple generations of steel sales and distribution. The company evolved from Alpine Distribution and Cedarwood, where the owners recognized the need to create a more specialized and customer-focused steel distribution business. The Stout family’s connection to the steel industry dates back generations, beginning with Edwin C. Stout Sr., who was involved in supplying steel used in some of Manhattan’s early skyscrapers. Building on that legacy, the company later acquired the steel rebar division previously associated with Georgia Pacific’s distribution efforts in the Pacific Northwest. Today, Stout Steel continues to expand its presence throughout the western United States, serving customers across Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Northern California, and surrounding regions. The company remains focused on combining traditional business values with modern steel distribution and fabrication solutions.
