About Us

Insteel Industries is the nation's largest manufacturer of steel wire reinforcing products for concrete construction applications. We manufacture and market prestressed concrete strand and welded wire reinforcement, including engineered structural mesh, concrete pipe reinforcement, and standard welded wire reinforcement. Our products are primarily sold to manufacturers of concrete products that are used in nonresidential construction. We estimate that approximately 85% of our sales are related to nonresidential construction and 15% are related to residential construction.

Cast-in-place

Insteel is the nation's leading provider of welded wire reinforcement detailing for cast-in-place concrete applications. With seven manufacturing plants strategically located across the country, Insteel has the capacity to serve projects nationwide. As the only organization in the United States offering estimating, sales, project management, detailing, and manufacturing all under one roof, Insteel sets the standard for excellence in cast-in-place concrete reinforcing.

Welded Wire

Insteel is the largest producer of welded wire reinforcement ("WWR") in the United States. We offer a broad range of WWR products including engineered structural mesh, standard welded wire reinforcement and concrete pipe reinforcement. PC Strand

Insteel is the largest producer of PC strand in the United States. We offer a complete line of seven-wire and three-wire, ASTM A416 compliant, 270 ksi, low relaxation PC strand for prestress, posttension and mining applications. Our highly experienced domestic and international sales team is ready to provide you with the service and support that you need to meet your specific reinforcing requirements.

Drawn Wire

Insteel manufactures a broad range of drawn wire products including continuous length, straightened and cut, and prestressing single wire. Drawn or rolled wire is cold-worked from steel wire rod that has been hot rolled from billets and produced as both bright basic and deformed wire with a yield range of 65 ksi to 80 ksi. Our drawn wire products conform to ASTM A1064 for rolled/drawn wire for both plain and deformed wire.

Formed Wire

Insteel manufactures a broad range of continuous spirals for concrete reinforcing applications. Our spirals are drawn and formed to meet your unique shape and wire diameter specifications to provide you with the proper reinforcement spacing and placement, saving you time and expense.

Our History

Insteel's history dates back to 1953 with the acquisition of a ready-mix concrete and concrete block plant located in Mount Airy, North Carolina by Howard O. Woltz, Jr., our founder. In the ensuing years, Insteel expanded into precast concrete and other concrete products. In 1974, we entered the wire products business in response to a shortage of welded wire reinforcement ("WWR") for our precast concrete operations. We subsequently expanded our wire products businesses through both acquisitions and investments in state-of-the-art greenfield facilities. During the 1980s, we divested our concrete operations and from 1997 to 2006, we completed a series of divestitures to further narrow our strategic focus to our concrete reinforcing products businesses, WWR and PC strand, in which we have ascended to market leadership positions. Since 2010, we have completed a series of strategic acquisitions, acquiring the WWR business of Ivy Steel & Wire, Inc. in 2010, the PC strand business of American Spring Wire Corp. in 2014, Ortiz Engineered Products in 2017, Strand-Tech Manufacturing, Inc. in 2020, and Engineered Wire Products Inc. in 2024.
